    Are you a reader?

There is a sale at the public library in Eldridge, Iowa. Customers will be attracted by a wide variety of good-quality, unbeatably-priced books.

The Friends of the Eldridge Library Book Sale is on now until Saturday at the library located at 200 North Sixth Avenue. A "Bag a Book" sale is 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.

I joined the "Friends" group a few years ago but this was the first time I was able to help set up for the sale. This was accomplished last Wednesday, when yours truly helped to establish the Non-Fiction section of the offerings.

Our group worked for about two hours on Wednesday, Oct. 6. The library does not accept book contributions at this time so all the books we dealt with are collected from around the Scott County Library System.

This means the books are on various topics and in excellent condition.

In one area, several large boxes of non-fiction books were sorted into categories like "Sports," "Religion," and "Cookbooks."

I mention Religion and Cookbooks because those categories were among the largest in the non-fiction category. I mention Sports, because that was the area I helped to organize and make look attractive.

We had maybe 12 large boxes to sort out and arrange. We'd take a stack of books out of the box and then walk to the various topic areas. Every so often we'd be stumped:

"Where do I put 'The Ultimate Book of Martial Arts?" I loudly asked the other volunteers and was quickly directed to the Sports section. Also in that area: "The New Illustrated Encyclopedia of Firearms" and "How I Play Golf" by Tiger Woods. Not to mention "Baseball" by Geoffrey C. Ward and Ken Burns, the documentarian.

The many choices in Religion included: "We Are Their Heaven" by Allison DuBois, "Desiring God," by John Piper and "Teaching Islam." There was a book on Sciencetology by L. Ron Hubbard as well.

Need to build up a personal library? This book sale is an excellent place to start!
